The essentials
- Your learning progress stays on your device; no Tuni account is required.
- Purchases, offer-screen views, content requests and optional reports or emails involve service providers.
- We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising across other apps.
Who is responsible
Tuni Chinese is the service described in this policy. The publisher identified in the contact section below is responsible for the personal information processed for Tuni. Use that contact for privacy questions and requests.
Information on your device
Tuni stores your name or nickname, language, Chinese level, learning goals, preferences, saved words, review answers, study history, reading progress and widget choices locally. These records personalize your learning and are not synced to a Tuni user account.
The iOS widget receives a local copy of selected words, their meanings and display settings. Words shown on your Lock Screen may be visible to anyone who can see your device. You can change the selection or remove the widget. Device backups are controlled by your operating system and its backup settings.
Purchases and Pro access
Apple processes App Store payments. RevenueCat helps us validate purchases, restore access and understand purchase activity. It processes a generated app-user identifier, transaction and product information, purchase history and subscription status, together with technical information needed to provide the service. An identifier can exist even if you do not purchase.
The RevenueCat subscription screens used in Tuni also record when an offer screen is displayed. We use these records to understand how subscription offers perform. This does not mean that all your taps, exercise answers or learning history are sent to RevenueCat.
We do not receive your full payment-card details, and we do not send your email address, learning history or nickname to RevenueCat. The support email prepared by the app can include your RevenueCat support ID. If you choose to send it, our team can link that customer record and its purchase history to your support message and sender address. We therefore do not describe all purchase records as anonymous.
Content delivery, approximate location and technical records
The app requests stories, audio, illustrations and other learning material from our content services, including Supabase. The services receive your IP address, requested resource, request time and device or app information. Supabase retains technical request logs, including IP addresses and approximate country or city derived from the network address. These records are used to operate, diagnose and protect the service, and are not limited to processing the request in real time.
A requested resource may indicate which learning material your device loaded. Some material is loaded in advance, so a download does not necessarily mean you viewed or completed it. These technical records do not synchronize your learning progress.
Approximate network location is different from GPS access. Tuni does not currently request precise-location, microphone or contacts access, or record your voice. Learning content is prepared in advance; the app does not send your answers to a live AI chat service.
Content reports
If you report a word, story or exercise, we send Supabase the reason, your optional comment, interface language, content identifier and a copy of the relevant learning material. We also send a generated installation identifier and a request identifier to prevent duplicate submissions and limit abuse. Reporting does not require a name or email address.
The installation identifier is stored on your device and reused for later reports. Reports are stored with this identifier, which lets us associate reports from the same installation even without knowing your name. It is not an advertising identifier. We use the report and its comment for investigation, correction and support, not for advertising or website audience measurement.
Report details may also reach our team by email through Resend. Avoid including personal or sensitive information in your comment. Reports are retained as needed to investigate, follow up and prevent abuse. Deleting the app does not delete reports already submitted. To ask about a report, contact us with the content concerned and approximate submission date; we may need further details to locate it.
Website waiting list and support email
The app does not ask you to create an email-based Tuni account or read the address configured in your email app. The website waiting list is a separate, optional service. If you join it, we collect your email, Chinese level, learning interests, any optional comment, the form language or source, and the time of consent. Resend stores these details to manage the list. We use them to send the updates you requested and understand what learners want. Without an email and consent, we cannot register you for updates.
The app can open your email application with a draft containing your app version, operating system, language, Chinese level, Free or Pro status and a support ID. It does not send the email automatically. You can review, change or remove these details before choosing to send.
If you send us an email, our team and support communication providers receive the sender address, message and any attachments you include. We use them to answer your request and troubleshoot. Contacting support does not subscribe you to waiting-list or marketing updates.
Website statistics without cookies
Our website uses self-hosted Plausible Analytics to measure page visits and successful waiting-list registrations without an analytics consent banner. This includes our help and legal pages when opened from the app. We do not send your email, form answers, URL query strings, URL fragments or referring page to this measurement service.
Plausible uses network information, including the IP address and browser information, to produce statistics such as page visits, device or browser types, and approximate country, region or city. Its standard processing does not store raw IP addresses in analytics records and uses a daily visitor identifier rather than a persistent cross-site identifier. These website statistics are separate from the technical service logs described above, which can retain IP addresses.
This measurement does not use analytics cookies, browser local storage or advertising identifiers. It is not used to recognize you across other websites or apps, or to target advertisements.
The website host may separately process request logs needed to deliver and secure the site. The consent you give when joining the waiting list concerns the requested updates and learner research; it is separate from this website measurement.
Purposes and legal bases
Where the applicable law requires a legal basis, we use the following bases for the purposes described here. Consent to optional processing is separate from accepting the Terms of use.
We use information necessary to provide the service you request, including content delivery, purchase validation and restoration, to perform our agreement with you or take steps at your request before an agreement. Information needed to establish a purchase entitlement is required for paid access.
We rely on consent for the waiting-list updates and learner research described in the sign-up form. The current form requires an email, Chinese level, learning interest and consent; its comment is optional. You can use the app without joining the list. Do not include sensitive personal details in a comment or use your full legal name as your in-app nickname unless you wish to.
Where permitted by law, we rely on legitimate interests in securing the service, resolving support requests, understanding purchase activity and measuring website audience without cookies, balanced against your rights and reasonable expectations. Support relating to our agreement may also be necessary to perform it. Records required by a specific legal duty are processed to comply with that duty.
You may withdraw consent for updates using the unsubscribe link in an update or by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing. Local learning personalization does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Recipients and international transfers
Information is received, as needed for the purposes above, by Apple, RevenueCat, Supabase, Resend, and providers of website hosting, analytics infrastructure and support communications. Providers acting on our instructions are required to protect the information and use it only for their agreed services. Apple also processes store data independently under its own terms. We may disclose information to competent authorities or professional advisers when legally required or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Links to another provider’s privacy policy explain that provider’s practices; they do not remove our responsibilities for information we control.
Providers may process information outside your country, including outside Thailand and the European Economic Area. Protection may differ between countries. Where transfer rules apply, a lawful transfer mechanism is required, such as an applicable adequacy decision or appropriate contractual safeguards with any necessary additional measures. Contact us for the relevant processing locations, transfer arrangements and how to obtain a copy of applicable safeguards.
How long information is kept
Local progress stays on your device until the app’s data is removed; backups may remain under your device settings. Waiting-list details are kept while needed for the updates you requested, until you withdraw, or until the list is closed. Support messages are kept as needed to resolve and follow up on requests.
Purchase records and technical logs may need to be retained for access restoration, security, legal obligations or disputes. When no longer needed for these purposes, we delete or anonymize personal information. Any necessary legal retention is limited to its purpose. Ask us for details about a specific record.
Removal from an active mailing list does not necessarily erase the limited records needed to document consent, honor an opt-out, comply with law or handle a dispute. Access to retained records must be limited to that purpose. Copies in backups follow the relevant backup cycle; deletion may not be immediate in every system.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the law that applies, including Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act where applicable, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing. You may withdraw consent and complain to the competent data-protection authority, including Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Committee.
Contact us using the details below. We may ask for proportionate verification to protect your information. We will respond within the applicable legal time limit and explain any lawful reason we cannot fully fulfil a request. We cannot directly access or remotely erase learning data held only on your device.
If EU or UK data-protection law applies, you may also complain to the competent supervisory authority where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred. Where a US state privacy law applies to our processing, you may exercise the access, correction, deletion, portability, opt-out and appeal rights it provides, including through an authorized agent where permitted. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising your rights. Not every right applies to every record or jurisdiction.
- To remove local learning data, delete the app and its data, not just its Home Screen icon or an offloaded app. Review device backups separately.
- To remove waiting-list or support records, contact us from the relevant email address where possible.
- For purchase-related requests, provide the support ID if available. Apple may retain transaction records independently. Data deletion does not cancel a subscription.
Teenagers and younger learners
Tuni is intended for teenagers and adults, rather than as a service specifically designed for young children. The ability to agree to a contract, make a purchase or consent to personal-data processing depends on the law where the learner lives.
If a learner cannot give the required consent or authorization independently, the appropriate parent or guardian authorization is required before the relevant activity. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without authorization where it is required by law.
If you believe a child’s information has been provided without the required authorization, contact us through the privacy contact below. We will assess the report and take the steps required by law, including stopping the processing and deleting the information where appropriate.
Security and policy updates
We use reasonable measures to protect the information we handle, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure. Please avoid sending sensitive information that is not needed for support.
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above. If a change requires notice or new consent, we will provide it as required by applicable law.
Where a personal-data breach triggers a legal duty to notify an authority or affected individuals, we will provide that notice as required.
